History

Robot snipers were decisive during the last military conflicts of the mid-21st century. During the so-called “Wheat Wars” in Africa, these devices proved highly reliable by shooting down drones in mid-air at more than 450 km/h. Their precise guidance system, low power consumption and great autonomy allowed them to be installed in any position and terrain, no matter how hostile the weather was, waiting for the type of target programmed.

They were rarely used against civilian population, their typical mission being the blockade of land and air transport. It should be noted that in the late 2060s new technologies based on metaphotons led to new types of subphotonic weapons and electronic ammunition with GPS guidance. ThunderTime snipers soon became obsolete, being used almost exclusively for extreme weather missions, where it was no longer cost-effective to keep a human operative waiting for a target for one or two weeks.

The THT-72, named after the year of its manufacture, was the last model in its class and operated during the Libyan peace campaign. It is believed that it was also active during the civil conflicts in Mogadishu in 2073, an issue never confirmed by the United Nations.

Its manufacture, marketing and use have been banned since the Doha Agreements of 2110. Analogue weapons can now be seen in museums around the world. It is believed that an undetermined number of these types of weapons might still be in the hands of mafias and eco-terrorist groups.
